Agricultural Solar Pumps & Farm Solar in Tamil Nadu
Diesel is expensive and daytime farm power is unreliable. A solar pump set runs your borewell on sunlight alone, with no fuel bill and almost no moving-part maintenance - and PM-KUSUM Component B covers a large share of the cost for eligible Tamil Nadu farmers.

Choosing the right solar pump for your borewell
Pump selection depends on three numbers: static water level, dynamic draw-down during pumping, and the daily volume your crop needs. A 3 HP submersible set with a 3 kWp array typically lifts water from 100 to 150 feet and delivers enough for two to three acres of irrigated dry crops. A 5 HP set with a 5 kWp array suits 150 to 250 feet borewells and four to six acres. A 7.5 HP set is specified for deeper wells or paddy and banana blocks with heavy water demand.
Surface pumps remain the right choice for open wells, farm ponds and canal lifting. Every set we supply uses a variable frequency drive controller with dry-run protection, over-voltage and reverse-polarity protection, and a mounting structure that can be manually tracked seasonally to add generation in the early morning and late afternoon.
- 3 HP: 2-3 acres, 100-150 ft borewell
- 5 HP: 4-6 acres, 150-250 ft borewell
- 7.5 HP: paddy, banana and deep-well blocks
PM-KUSUM: what the scheme covers
PM-KUSUM Component B supports standalone solar pumps for individual farmers, with central and state assistance together covering a substantial share of the benchmark cost and the farmer contributing the balance. Component C supports solarisation of existing grid-connected pumps, letting a farmer sell surplus generation back to the DISCOM. Allocation runs through the state nodal agency, so quotas open in tranches and applications are processed against the district allotment for that cycle.
We help you assemble the application: land record extracts, borewell details, the electricity service number where applicable, Aadhaar and bank details for direct benefit transfer, and the pump specification sheet. Subsidy is disbursed to the beneficiary, not to us.
Beyond pumps: farm rooftop and agrivoltaics
Farm sheds, poultry units, cold rooms and dairy parlours are excellent solar hosts because their loads run through the day. We install rooftop arrays on farm buildings under standard net metering, and elevated array structures over low-height crops so land continues to be farmed under the panels. For farmhouses without a dependable connection, an off-grid or hybrid system with battery backup keeps lighting, fencing and monitoring live overnight.
District coverage for farm installations
Our agricultural teams work regularly across Vellore, Viluppuram, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu and Tiruvallur, and travel to Tiruvannamalai, Ranipet, Cuddalore, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri and Tiruchirappalli for pump projects. Because a solar pump has no fuel logistics and no monthly bill, the running cost is effectively zero once installed - the only recurring task is rinsing the modules and an annual controller check, both covered by our maintenance plan.
Indicative solar pump configurations
| Pump rating | Array size | Suitable depth | Typical acreage | Daily discharge |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 HP submersible | 3.0 kWp | 100 - 150 ft | 2 - 3 acres | 45,000 - 60,000 litres |
| 5 HP submersible | 5.0 kWp | 150 - 250 ft | 4 - 6 acres | 80,000 - 1,10,000 litres |
| 7.5 HP submersible | 7.5 kWp | 250 - 350 ft | 7 - 10 acres | 1,20,000 - 1,60,000 litres |
| 3 HP surface | 3.0 kWp | Open well / pond | 2 - 4 acres | 70,000 - 90,000 litres |
Discharge figures are for a clear day in Tamil Nadu and vary with head, pipe sizing and water table.
