What has been reported about rooftop solar defect closure?
An industry report from Saur Energy describes tighter evidence requirements for closing rooftop solar inspection defects on the PM Surya Ghar portal. The reported workflow uses the FQI (Field Quality Inspection) Defect Section under the Main Vendor login. For homeowners and installers, the practical focus is on correcting the issue and keeping clear, installation-specific proof rather than relying on a generic closure note.
This article explains the reported requirements; it is not an official MNRE circular. Check the latest instructions in the official PM Surya Ghar portal and the notice attached to your inspection record before submitting documents. Where portal instructions differ from this summary, follow the current official instructions.
Reported FQI defect rectification requirements
The Saur Energy report on PM Surya Ghar defect rectification describes the following requirements. Vendors should confirm the deadline, evidence format and undertaking applicable to the actual defect ticket.
- 15-day resolution window: the report states that vendors must rectify flagged defects and upload evidence within 15 calendar days. Check the date and deadline shown against the inspection issue.
- Geo-tagged, time-stamped photographs: provide photographs of the physical rectification with the location and time information required by the portal. Use evidence from the actual installation, not generic project photographs.
- Inverter generation proof: where the inverter display does not show cumulative generation, the report calls for a geo-tagged monitoring-app screenshot showing lifetime generation and the inverter serial number.
- Consumer sign-off: the reported process requires a portal-generated undertaking on company letterhead, signed and stamped by the installer and countersigned by the homeowner.
- Warranty and serial-number records: the report describes OEM documentation identifying the installed modules and inverter, together with a five-year comprehensive system warranty from commissioning. Confirm the exact coverage, exclusions and responsible provider in writing.
- PDF upload format: the report calls for clean, single-extension PDF evidence files rather than double-extension or suspicious files. Follow the current portal's file-size and document instructions as well.
What Chennai and Tamil Nadu homeowners should check
If an inspector flags an issue such as an earthing defect or a mounting concern, ask the installer to explain the remark, the corrective work and the evidence being submitted. Do not sign a satisfaction undertaking until the work has been explained and you are satisfied that the reported issue has been addressed. Electrical and structural repairs should be handled by appropriately qualified personnel.
Request copies of your operation and maintenance instructions, equipment serial-number list, warranty documents and completed undertaking. Keep these with the commissioning and application records. Make sure the inverter and module details match the equipment installed at your property.
A complete evidence file may help avoid requests for missing documents, but it does not guarantee inspection acceptance or a faster subsidy payment. Approval and disbursement remain subject to the relevant authorities, scheme eligibility and the status of your application. Read our PM Surya Ghar guide for the wider application process.
Five-year support and manufacturer warranties are not the same
A module performance warranty, an inverter product warranty and installation or workmanship support cover different things. A statement about five-year comprehensive system cover should not be treated as proof that every component has identical warranty terms or that all service costs are automatically included. Ask who is responsible for each type of claim and retain the written terms.
As described in GenSolar's existing PM Surya Ghar guide, GenSolar and the customer sign an agreement covering installation and support responsibilities. For five years, reported installation-related issues are inspected and the workmanship remedy is provided where covered by that agreement. Equipment claims are checked and coordinated under the relevant manufacturer's terms. This support commitment is separate from manufacturer warranties.

Plan your installation and after-installation support with GenSolar
Before choosing a rooftop solar system, discuss the roof survey, equipment selection, installation scope, inspection documentation and after-installation support. Ask for these responsibilities to be set out in the proposal and agreement rather than relying on verbal assurances.
